Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has kept a low profile since she abdicated and Hillary Clinton but changed last night, when she joined the legendary vocal stress Aretha Franklin and soulful jam session.

Rice, a classically trained pianist, played Mozart selection and Franklin was with her in several arias and her Motown hits. The duo left their political differences – Rice served under George W. Bush and Franklin is a staunch Obama supporter behind the benefit, and even took time to joke about it. “We have some things in common, but I’m a Democrat always, let me be perfectly clear about it, okay?” Franklin said, according to USA Today. Rice replied, “We are all Americans, and President Obama is my president, too.”
